Claude Von Stroke Bird Brain Tour

If  you haven’t done so already,  you should totally check out Claude Von Stroke’s Bird Brain tour blog on discobelle.net.  A tour blog that he lightly jokes is ‘me talking shit. It’s also cheaper and less embarrassing than visiting a shrink.’ Brilliant!  Here’s a snippet from his stop in Berlin for the Mothership and Dirtybird Party at Watergate in November:

“All i could think about was the main room at Watergate going insane to Maetrik while this old Easy Jet lady was telling me my DJ bag isn’t getting on the plane as a carry-on.

As she came from behind her desk to physically measure the dimensions of my hand luggage I totally cracked. Snatching up both my bags I very rudely said “fuck you, have fun with your ruler” and walked out of the airport. (maybe slightly drunk at this point and a little too rude.)  I got straight back in a cab back to Watergate. I walked back into the main room as Maetrik finished and got back on the decks for another 2 hours. Worth it…yes!”

Electric Minds, Electric Hearts, Electric Party

Phew!  So last weekend was one party-inspired affair… Blurrb was lucky enough to squeeze into the Electric Minds Halloween party which was bursting to capacity by 1am.  Big thumbs up to everyone who dressed up (1st prize for ingenius costume went to the guy who dressed up as a baby… terrifying!) and also to Dolan Bergin, the Loose kids and residents of 102eh? for playing some seriously good house and techno which got people dancing on the furniture.

Luckily for us a few trigger-happy people managed to document the night… enjoy and an especial thanks to Yuval, Christine and Kel!

Lucky for us!  Ryan Crosson, JPLS, Maetrik, Wolf+Lamb are some of the other wizards who helped to brew up these remixes in order to cast a spell on our ears….

Electric Minds – A Tribute To Arthur Russell

Artist: Various

Title: A Tribute To Arthur Russell

Label: Electric Minds

Format: 12”

Cat no: EMINDS013

PURCHASE AT: Juno

The future of creative media may be paved in digital but there is – and hopefully always will be – a staunch and unwavering group of music lovers who covet and desire the sound and feel of vinyl.  Which is why when an independent record label reaches it’s 10th vinyl release, it is a noteworthy occasion as well as a cause for celebration.

London based Electric Minds has indeed reached this milestone and has dedicated their 10th release to the work of Arthur Russell.  Arthur Russell is a ‘name’ – a name that is known and revered by music heads.  Like so many artists who’s outlook, ideas and creations during their time were ahead of the curve, Russell was relatively unknown whilst alive.  Twenty-five years on, he has left a musical legacy that is highly regarded in the context of today’s dance music;  how it emerged, evolved, to the renascence of Disco during the last few years and it’s subsequent spawning of new sub-genres.

Factoring in the significance of Russell’s work, it is both refreshing and highly commendable that A Tribute To Arthur Russell has not one re-edit or remix in it’s midst.  Instead, the project offers up-to-date and original tracks, interpreting the key elements of the original compositions with love and respect, adding relevant modern twists and taking care not to lose the original magic. Big gun names involved with the project include Faze Action, Yam Who?, Mark E, Andy Spence (New Young Pony Club), Ilija Rudman, Lil Tony and Pocketknife.  Samples of some of the tracks can be listened to here:

Arm Around You – My Tiger My Timing (Prod. by Andy Spence)

Get Around To It – PocketKnife feat. Joe Worricker (Mark E remix)

In The Light Of A Miracle – Faze Action feat. Yam Who? & Mary Moore

The 12″ sampler with Mark E, Pocketknife and Faze Action is available NOW to purchase at Juno with the next release coming out on the 16th November.  12″ Go Bang remixed by Yam Who? is due for release early 2010.   In the meantime, here’s a web-exclusive freebie as a special friday treat, Get Around To It (Ray Burst remix).

And least but not least, for those who are going to be located in London on the 27th November, Electric Minds have collaborated with Hot Box (the new monthly party produced by Lovebox) for their Arthur Russell Tribute launch party.  The party will taking place at The Garage in Islington.  Kicking off the proceedings, there will be a screening of Matt Wolf’s “Wild Combination”, a docu-movie about Russell at 7pm.  The film will be followed by live  music from My Tiger My Timing and Killer Whale.

Then a 3 room party extravaganza will commence until 4am, with a line-up to die for including Maurice Fulton, Yam Who?, Faze Action, Dolan Bergin, Lovebox All Stars (feat Tom Findlay of Groove Armada), Max Essa, Severino (Horsemeat Disco), Stuart Patterson, Bill Brewster as well as East London party kids The Cosmic Truth, Loose and 102eh?.

Tickets can be purchased in advance from RA… buy them now or regret it later!
