Wet weather dampened Detroit’s Movement festival Monday but didn’t stop it from posting its best-ever attendance figures as a paid event. More than 95,000 people came through the Hart Plaza gates over the weekend, according to organizers, a 15 percent increase in attendance over last year’s fest.
Movement director Jason Huvaere credited the festival’s success to a well-run campaign leading up to the event. As for the bump in attendance, “It shows we’re working in the right direction,” he said.

“Thieve $crilla” is the debut groove from collaborative Boston dubby techno outfit SECT. The production moniker represents four fellas known for their own productions, Eli Goldstein and Charles Levine of Soul Clap, DJ Sergio Santos, and producer Tanner Ross. “$crilla” finds the quartet rediscovering the meaning of the word deep, with a solid beat anchored to the dancefloor by thick bass tones and enough cosmic synth explorations to send the mellowest of parties to a whole new level. SECT’s self-titled first EP is available May 24 via Culprit. xlr8r.com

The entire ordeal was caught on film as well, and the footage will be featured on a DVD accompanying a limited edition version of Analog Session.

Another excellent Polish export, formed by Kacper Bogacz and Michal Piotrowski. Kacper Bogacz, a graduate of the Academy of Jazz Music in Katowice, Poland and a respected jazz musician, became known to wider audiences through ‘Piroman vs. Pan K’, his live act partnership with Michal Romanowski. The other half of Pol_On, Michal Piotrowski is without a doubt one of the key players in Warsaw’s techno/house club scene. In recent years he’s been involved in events, festival bookings and numerous productions – notably with SLG, amongst others.
The pair began playing parties together in 2007 and quickly discovered a shared musical vision. Trial musical productions soon developed into something more significant. Exactly a year on they have released their single “I Need” on Freerange Records, as well as material for new label PETS with remixes of Martin Dawson and Adreas Saag; and a second EP on Outils Du Connaisseur, which has been well received by top Dj’s.
As well as being inundated with remix requests, for several well known artists and labels, the duo are seriously thinking about their first album…
